FAQs

How does a plinth heater work?

Plinth heaters work by using electricity to heat an element that then radiates heat into the room. They are typically installed as a supplement to a central heating system in kitchen units and bathrooms where wall space is limited.

Plinth heaters work by using an electric fan to draw in cool air from the room, passing it over a heating element or hot water coil, and then blowing the warmed air back into the room to provide quick and even heating.

Plinth heaters can be either electric using a heating element, or hydronic. Hydronic plinth heaters are connected to the central heating system and use hot water to produce heat instead.

What is the difference between a hydronic plinth heater and an electric one?

While electric plinth heaters use an electric element to blow warmed air into the room, a hydronic plinth heater (sometimes referred to as a 'central heating plinth heater' is connected to your existing central heating system and draws in hot water to generate warmth using a heat exchanger.

Hydronic heaters can take longer to heat up and require a plumber for installation but usually provide lower running costs compared to electric plinth heaters.

Electric heaters heat up quickly but can have potentially higher running costs than hydronic ones.

What are the benefits of plinth heaters?

Plinth heaters are designed to fit underneath kitchen units or bathroom cabinets, making them great for saving space while providing extra warmth where it would otherwise be difficult to install a radiator or other type of heater.
They are an ideal heating solution for warming up a room quickly and their floor-level position makes the most of convection currents and warms the room as the hot air rises.

Plinth heaters are also available in a range of sizes and styles, including white and brushed stainless steel so you're sure to find one that fits neatly into your home or office.
